Advent

For Advent 2023 we are organising a dialled-down version of our usual Adventfest while we explore options for the use of the church hall for licensed concert events.

Friday 24th November, 6.30pm

Ladies’ Clothes Swap and Auction

Women of St James Church, Leith (and friends) bring along choice cast-offs and come away with a refreshed wardrobe. Part rummage sale (with trying-on) and part auction (with bidding wars!). Money raised on the night supports The Junction, this year’s local Adventfest charity supporting young people’s health and wellbeing, while remaining clothes go to Bethany shops.

Bring quality cast-offs, nibbles to share, something to drink, a friend.

Where: Judith and Geoffrey Stevenson’s house

RSVP to Judith, via the church office if you don't have her address on sally@stjamesleith.org

But if you decide to come at the last minute, YOU WILL BE WELCOME!

Friday 1st December  7.30 p.m.

Sparkle and Spice

Curries, fairy lights and a bit of fizz. A community meal with a programme of turns compered by Elspeth Murray

Prepare for festivities by polishing up your party pieces and donning cheery winter wear. Yes - a little bit like a bonus Burns Night but with (probably) less tartan and (hopefully) more mince pies!

To suggest a performance contribution contact David Heavenor davidheavenor(at)hotmail.com or see him on a Sunday morning.

Saturday 2nd December, 7 p.m.

The (festive)Well

A clean and alcohol-free open mic night. There are few music events that offer alcohol-free environments but with a fun, Saturday night feel.

Join our friends from Safer by Sound who meet once a month at St James and offer artists and performers an opportunity to share songs or poems with a friendly, receptive audience, maybe for the first time.

To suggest a short contribution phone or email David Heavenor davidheavenor(at)hotmail.com  or see him on a Sunday morning.

Saturday 2nd December  2-4pm

Making Advent Calendars (children's event)

Would you like to read a little part of the Christmas story and collect a star for your wall  each day leading up to Christmas? If so then come and make your own Advent calendar from 2-4pm on Saturday  2 December in the small hall.

At the end we will open the first two together with a snack and a drink and jolly music!

To make sure I have enough materials for everybody, I will need to know numbers, so to book your place please email me at revjohenderson(at)gmail.com
